Spin Cycle: Access dern-ied

Brailsford's penned a potential bestseller.

Spin Cycle is Escape Collective’s news digest, published every Monday and Friday. You can read it on this website (obviously) or click here to have it delivered straight to your inbox.

Hello!

Welcome back to Spin Cycle,

Our secret pro says most of the peloton are done with the season and their minds already on the beach.

We are not though! The news never stops. Remember Cian Uijtdebroeks? He's up to his old tricks once again, despite being just 22 years old.

You Cian't see me (sticking it out for an entire contract ever) ✍️

Late on Thursday evening we heard a whisper that a Cian Uijtdebroeks announcement would be made at 9:30 Friday morning. We were curious, but ultimately what could it really be? How wrong we were.

Fast forward 12 hours or so and the bombshell had dropped: Cian Uijtdebroeks was moving from Visma-Lease a Bike to Movistar. Maybe the most chaotic thing to happen so far in what has been a very chaotic season.

Visma CEO Richard Plugge explained in the press release that the opinion of the team and Uijtdebroeks on the direction of the rider's career and role within the Dutch squad had diverged. Credit to both Visma for handling this uncoupling with basically zero drama, and also credit to Uijtdebroeks for backing himself so much he thinks he can single-handedly make it work over at Movistar. Overall, the big winners here are the fans. Get that popcorn machine warmed up.

What was Remco Evenepoel even complaining about? 😩

While Remco Evenepoel managed to put a smile back on his own face with the European time trial title (and making sure that jersey won't be worn for the next 12 months), we're still ruminating on his histrionics in Rwanda.

This is mostly given the fact he could have had it a lot worse. He could have been like this wee fella (captured by Rwandan journalist Edmund Kagire) standing by the roadside in Kigali who managed to get his head stuck between the barriers. UCI safety not up to scratch once again!

Did we do a good job with this story?
