If you’re on this page, it’s most likely because you’re a first time visitor to Escape. You’re probably not sure what we’re all about or why you should spend your time here. So let’s fix that and get you to the good stuff.

what we do

Why we do this
We want to infect everone with the same passion we have for cycling by informing and connecting you with the most beautiful sport on Earth. We do this by covering cycling in a fun, positive, intelligent and insightful way.
By the way — did you notice there are no ads here? That’s because we believe a cycling publication shouldn’t live or die by its ability to sell you other companies’ stuff.
To speak honestly and earn your trust, we can’t rely on advertising from the very industry whose sponsorships, products, and athletes we cover. We believe it’s important to write about the things you, and we, care about - and not have that second guessed or guided by us chasing ad dollars. We hope you feel as good about that as we do.
So that’s why we’re independent. We don’t take advertising dollars. Rather, we charge a subscription for those, perhaps like you, who want to access our content and be a part of our community. These people are our members - our Escapees. You can read our founding story here.

What we value
If we're not guided by chasing advertising dollars, then what guides us? Well, we have a set of values that frames how we approach our work.
Members led
We look to our Escapees to inform our editorial agenda and all aspects of our business. If it’s good for you, it’s good for us. Incentives are aligned.
Independence
We’ve covered this already, but it’s so important we’ll say it again - as a member-led organization, we are proudly independent, allowing us to operate fully in the best interests of our community and stay a sustainable business so you can rely on us for the next 20 years.
Inclusivity
Whoever you are, whatever kind of bike you ride, and however you like to ride it, we will welcome you as a member.
Comprehension
We provide a wide range of content and services to inspire, educate, and entertain our members to be the best people on bikes that they can be.
The highest standards
In everything we choose to do, we do it to the best of our ability and creativity, in service of our members.
Now, you might think that those values are just decoration and don’t really get used.
But they do. And we demonstrate this every year when we release our Transparency Report. And that report does what it says on the tin: it gives all Escapees transparency about our business, how we spent your membership dollars, what went well, what didn’t go as we hoped and what we’re going to do in the future. It’s widely anticipated by the membership and thoroughly discussed upon release.
We’re the people
behind Escape
When you spend some time around here, you start to realise that the Escape community is like a great big group of friends. Every member of our team is active in our community, interacting with Escapees and listening to what they have to say. It’s important to us that you know who we are, what we’re about and why you should trust us with your attention.
What our members have to say
"Rarely have I spent $100 a year on something that gives me such great joy. I feel a real connection with your staff and contributors and I truly appreciate the long-term focus you have made establishing EC."
Dan Maize, Member #6937
"I’m a Member for the awesome, detailed, human recaps of races/stages without a litany of pop-ups and ads. In a world where cycling coverage is so spread out I’m really relieved to have a single source, that is reliable, feels like it’s run by normal people, and covers all aspects of the sport."

Keegan Dewitt, Member #14361
"It is nice to stay up to date with the sport. I like that there are brilliant stories in there as well."

Richie Porte, Member #1 (2023-24)
