Two of the biggest companies in cycling tech are slated to battle it out in court after social fitness platform Strava sued GPS giant Garmin in US District Court in Colorado over claims of patent infringement. The suit specifically says Garmin violated three patents around its heatmap, segments, and leaderboards features and a licensing deal between the two companies. In addition to seeking damages, the suit seeks to force Garmin to essentially halt all hardware sales of devices that infringe on the patents. It comes just as Strava is reportedly exploring becoming a publicly traded company.
