Made 2025 handmade bike show, part two

For the second installment of our Made coverage, Rob and Josh take a look at builds from Ron's Bikes, Artefact, Neuhaus, Mosaic, No. 22, Significant Other, Paladin, and SaltAir.

We're back with a second installment of coverage from the Made Bike Show in Portland, OR. Equally as varied as the bikes featured in yesterday's gallery, this one has it all, from an ultra-modern aero titanium build to a neoretro chubby tire rim brake road bike, and yet another 32-inch wheel MTB.

Larkin Cycles/Ron's Bikes CR1 Road

Ronnie (Ultraromance) Romance's newest addition to his growing collection of bikes under the Ron's Bikes moniker is the CR1 road bike, aka Country Road Bike. Built by Darren Larkin of Larkin Cycles nearby Ron's home in Deep River, Connecticut, the CR1 has "everything you need, and nothing you don't."

The CR1 utilizes Columbus Life tubing and mid-reach rim brakes to accommodate up to 700x39 tires in a lightweight package. Light for steel, at least. Ron's build, pictured here, weighs approximately 19 lbs, and the fork alone is reportedly just 750 g. Designed around a modern road geometry, the seat angle is steep, with a sloping downtube that accommodates a long seatpost — titanium in Ron's case for added compliance. The stem on Ron's show bike is also Larkin-made, but not included in the cost of a frameset.

Ron's builds are always eclectic, and for Made, he decked this CR1 out in some interesting parts. Going with a sort of French theme, he sourced a set of Mavic Ksyrium SL Heritage wheels, first seen in Escape's Eurobike coverage, which accompany the vintage Modolo levers, zebra print Flite TT saddle, and Simplex shifters.

The drivetrain is a mix of mountain and road parts, with vintage Top Line cranks repurposed to run a wide-range double with 46/30 chainrings. In the rear, he's using a Shimano XTR M950 derailleur with a 9-speed 11-34T cassette.

Topping it all off, the headset and seat collar are from Chris King's new collection of jade-colored components. And, as a co-owner of the Ultradynamico tire empire, it's rolling on a pair of the brand's Cava Race in 700 x 39.

CR1 framesets are currently available as part of a small batch size run for US$2,200. -JW

Mosaic RT-Zero Halo

Considered a special project from Colorado-based Mosaic Cycles, the RT-Zero is a test case for potential future performance and aesthetic enhancements across the brand's catalog of models.
