Triumph, tears, and a race against time

Triumph, tears, and a race against time

The Tour de France Femmes ends on a dramatic note for everyone, from the winner to the last riders across the line to the throng of fans at the finish.

Cor Vos

The clock is ticking.

Grace Brown, Olympic and World Champion in the time trial and now journalist with SBS, looks to me. "What's the time cut today?"

I scramble for my road book. Stage 9, just like Stage 8, is a 20% day. We glance to the large Tissot clock that looms over the finish line. It reads 3:38.23, the winning time of Pauline Ferrand-Prévot of Visma-Lease a Bike. Beside that time is an ever-ticking clock, increasing. Brown does the math (better her than I) and says, "43 min." I glance up. +42min blares, and a group is approaching.

The clock waits for no one as they fight to complete the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift.

Tick, tick, tick.
