Pellizzari storms to victory on stage 17 of the Vuelta a España

Pidcock takes second on the Alto de El Morredero.

Giulio Pellizzari (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe) attacked in the final kilometers of the Cat. 1 Alto de El Morredero to take the biggest victory of his young career on Wednesday's stage 17 of the Vuelta a España.

Tom Pidcock (Q36.5) was the fastest finisher in a chasing group, while Jai Hindley took third to complete a great day for the Red Bull team.

Race leader Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) was the next rider across the line, picking up two seconds on fifth-place finisher and main GC rival João Almeida (UAE-Team Emirates-XRG). The Dane thus added slightly to his overall lead, although his relatively quiet showing on a day where he was a pre-stage favorite may raise some questions about his form ahead of a crucial time trial on Thursday.
