A tree in the road and another altered stage: Vuelta organizers plan to continue amid ongoing protests

Protests impact yet another Vuelta stage but organizers remain committed to pressing on through to Madrid.

Even as ongoing pro-Palestinian protests in Spain cause near daily disruptions for the Vuelta a España, organizers are committed to keeping the race going while scrambling to mitigate the impact of the those protests.

"The main message I want to give is that we will continue to run the Vuelta and tomorrow we will be at the start of stage 17," race director Javier Guillén said after stage 16 was shortened due to protests near the planned finish in Mos.

Egan Bernal (Ineos Grenadiers) took the stage win on Tuesday at a revamped finish 8 km from the original finish line, and that change came after organizers and locals scrambled to remove a tree that had been felled in the road in what seemed to be an attempt to block the race.
