Canyon and Engel make injection-moulded plastic cockpit in 64 seconds

The new bar is made with a fully automated process.

While most of Eurobike is focused on new bikes and components, one of the niche yet interesting products at this year's show was a machine tucked away in Hall 8, among the more "innovative" exhibitors. The large green creation, with a robot whirring about inside it, belongs to Austrian injection moulding giant Engel, who was showing off a manufacturing process developed with Canyon – a thermo-plastic, carbon-reinforced cockpit made in just over a minute.

This far, there is only one product coming out of this machine – the CP0051 cockpit, built for Canyon’s commuter Roadlite 2026 range. It combines handlebar, stem, internal cable routing, and mounts for a light or other accessories into a single piece. The shape or kind of integration is nothing new; what’s new is how the bar is made.

The aim of the project was to create a more cost-effective and sustainably produced cockpit, explained Clemens Kastner, sales director at Engel, at the Eurobike stand. Engel, a well-known name in the automotive industry, supplied the production machinery, while other partners contributed to the design and materials.
