After weeks of rumors, UAE Team Emirates-XRG has confirmed that Tadej Pogačar will not be attending the Vuelta a España after all. The four-time Tour de France winner had initially been expected to return to the race where he made his Grand Tour debut back in 2019, riding to third overall that year, but that plan seems to have changed as fatigue set in over the course of the Tour de France.
Pogačar will therefore be racing the GPs Québec and Montréal instead in the run-up to an attempted defense of his World Championship title.
"After such a demanding Tour, we decided it was best to take a break," Pogačar said via a UAE team statement. "The Vuelta is of course a race I would dearly love to return to. I have fantastic memories there from 2019, but now the body is telling me to rest. I’m excited to go back to Canada; the races are tough but beautiful, and they fit my style well. I’ll be aiming to be back racing well again for that part of the season and for the World Championships especially."
