Continental launches new Archetype road race tyre

New limited edition 30 mm race tyre developed with UAE Team Emirates-XRG prioritises speed over puncture protection

Continental has unveiled the Archetype, a new limited-edition road race tyre developed in partnership with UAE Team Emirates-XRG. The tyre, which will make its debut at the Tour de France, represents a distilled version of Continental’s performance tyre technology, with a singular focus on race-day speed. Developed at the request of the UAE team to deliver maximum performance in a 30 mm width, the Archetype is positioned as the company’s fastest 30 mm tubeless-ready tyre to date.

Weighing 275 grams, the tyre is 35 grams lighter than the Grand Prix 5000 S TR in the same size. That weight saving comes from a reduced tread and the absence of a puncture protection breaker, enabling approximately 15% lower rolling resistance. It features Continental’s BlackChili compound for grip and speed, LazerGrip shoulder micro-texturing for cornering grip, and Active Comfort Technology to smooth road vibrations.

Key features include the brand’s BlackChili compound for grip and low rolling resistance, LazerGrip shoulder microtexturing said to improve cornering stability, and Active Comfort Technology to dampen road vibrations. The tyre is fully tubeless-ready and hookless-compatible, with a maximum pressure rating of 73 PSI for its 30 mm size. It comes in limited-edition packaging and will be available globally via selected retailers from today (26 June), priced at €106 / $104 / £95.
